Greetings
JoAn Segal, President
“Let’s
begin at the very beginning”, goes the line in the famous song from The Sound
of Music. In that context, the beginning is do, re, mi. But there
are so many beginnings! Some happen around this time of year.
School starts. Chorale rehearsals begin. The Jewish New Year comes
around. And for me, my birthday.
The
Chorale’s 2006-7 season is off to a good start. We have made a good
beginning on the Duruflé pieces: the Requiem and the Motets. The Women’s
Chorale sounds wonderful as we enter the building and hear their sweet
music.
The
Chorale’s Planning process has also begun. We started off with a brainstorming
session, where we shared our dreams about what the Chorale could be – our
Vision. “The best choral group in the world” was one of the
suggestions. We also gave thought to the Core Values upon which we want
the Chorale to be based, values like “inclusiveness,” and “high quality of
performance”. And we talked about our Mission: what it is we do, such as
“Sing”, or “create community within and outside of the Chorale.” The
process is moving on, with three subgroups each concentrating on one of these three
concepts, drafting language the entire committee will discuss at our next full
committee meeting. If the whole process is as energizing and exciting as
this beginning, we should really have a wonderful Strategic Plan in place by
the end of this season.
We’re
also beginning with a first-ever full Chorale retreat on Saturday, Sept.
30. Over 100 have signed up for this community-building and performance-enhancing
activity. How exciting!
And,
speaking of birthdays, we’ll be doing them less randomly than in the
past. You were all asked to put your birthday month on your registration
information form. Once a month, we’ll honor all those who were born in
that month! Happy beginnings!
Angel Ticket Program
Sara Neustadtl

Chorale Tour to Greece
Erin Christensen-Mandel, Coordinator
So
far we have 62 people signed up for the tour to Greece! The tour will be from June 28 through July 7,
2007. We still have a few open seats, so
if you are thinking about joining, please let me know as soon as possible.
In
the meantime, a trip to the IMAX movie “Greece: Secrets of the Past” is in the works. There is a sign-up sheet at the Greece Tour
table if you are interested. More
information will be coming soon.

always, if you have any questions, please contact me:

From the Grants Committee
Sue Hintz-Siegrist, Chair
Money Makes the World Go Around, the Chorale
Go Around...
The 2006-2007 Boulder Chorale
grant writing committee consists of Sue Hintz-Siegrist (chair), Diane
LaTourrette, Ruth Arnold, Jan Wierzba and Josephine Bynder. We have been busy
since meeting earlier this summer, writing grants to help with a variety of the
Chorale's expenses.
I'm very happy to report that
the Chorale received an award of $7,710.00 from SCFD which will be presented on
October 10th at the Dairy Center for the Arts. Please thank committee member
Josephine Bynder for her successful writing efforts!
We also have grant proposals
currently under consideration to Xcel Energy Foundation and the Denver
Foundation, as well as two in the works right now to the Community Foundation
and BCAA. Jan Wierzba is preparing a grant request to IBM. We also have plans
to apply for several grants that will be due later in the season.
Not all grants are suited to
our needs so we do go through a process of consideration and try to select the
grant opportunities that best suit our needs for the season. The committee
welcomes any information regarding corporate grants to non-profits that you may
know of. Perhaps your employer offers grant possibilities or you know of an
organization that does. Please feel free
to contact any of the grant committee members.

King Soopers Grocery Certificates?
Dede Beardsley
King Soopers gift certificates are the effortless way
for you to make money for the Boulder Chorale.
The key word here is: effortless!
It reminds me of one of my favorite fortunes: “You will earn thousands
of dollars simply by doing nothing!”
How Does It Work?
Through the Boulder Chorale, you buy King Soopers gift
certificates that are as good as cash at King Soopers and at some
Safeways. If you normally spend $200
each month on groceries, you’d buy $200 in certificates and use them as cash
when you shop for groceries.
How do we, the Boulder Chorale, benefit?
We buy the gift certificates at the following
discounts:
·
3% if we purchase
$200-$2499 in certificates
·
4% if we purchase
$2500-$4999 in certificates
·
5% if we purchase
$5000 or more in certificates
The key is getting into the 5% bracket. We can do that by each buying just $50
each month in certificates; that would net the Chorale $250 each month. If we each bought just $100 each month, the
Chorale would make $500 each month...simply by doing nothing! You do the math.
Details
I will have certificates to sell at the Marketplace
during each rehearsal break. (They come
in $25 increments.) So bring your
checkbooks! Make checks payable to
the Boulder Chorale. They’re great
gifts, too! Throw some in the direction
of your starving college student, for example!
Thanks!
