Welcome! The Boulder Children’s Chorale serves students in grades one through eight in three ensembles: two Preparatory Choirs for younger singers and Bel Canto for more experienced singers. Since our inception in 2009, Boulder Children’s Chorale has collaborated in concert with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Boulder Ballet, Mahlerfest and with the adult ensembles of the Boulder Chorale. Auditions are required for students auditioning for Preparatory Choir 2 and Bel Canto. Preparatory Choir 1 students may register for choir without auditioning. No preparation is necessary. PREPARATORY CHOIR 1 (grades 1-3)Students in this choir will learn the fundamentals of choral singing including breath, body alignment, vowel purity, blend and phrasing. Additionally, basic music reading will be taught. Registration Form (2013-14 edition coming soon) |

PREPARATORY CHOIR 2 (grades 3-5)Students in this choir will continue to build the fundamentals of choral singing including breath, body alignment, vowel purity, blend and phrasing. No preparation is necessary. 1. Vocalizing (to test range) 2. Aural recall (echoing pitches) 3. Sight singing & rhythm reading (skills are not necessary for acceptance into the group) 4. Singing a familiar song like "Happy Birthday" Boulder Children's Chorale is a choir for treble voices. Boys whose voices have changed are ineligible. DIRECTORSKimberly Watkins Kim Watkins completed dual master’s degrees in music education and vocal performance at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004. Her professional experience includes fourteen years of secondary choral teaching in North Carolina and Colorado public school systems. In 2003, Mrs. Watkins advanced as a finalist in voice competitions sponsored by the Denver Lyric Opera Guild and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. During her graduate studies at the University of Colorado, she appeared as Madame Lidoine in Dialogues of the Carmelites, and as Gianetta in L’Elisir d’Amore. She also served as conductor of the University Women’s Choir and as an instructor for various music education courses. Mrs. Watkins has been a soloist with the Arvada Chorale, Boulder Chorale and the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. She has adjudicated voice competitions at CU Boulder and in the Saint Vrain Valley School District. Kim served as Associate Director for the adult ensembles of Boulder Chorale from 2002-2009, leaving to begin work developing Boulder Children's Chorale. Mrs. Watkins is currently Director of Choirs at Niwot High School. She resides in Erie with her husband, Jason, and her son, Daniel. ********************************** |
